The Pinangpanga represents the double-headed carabao or deer. This symbol represents abundance, leadership, bravery and sacrifice. Originally made of gold, these symbols are now often crafted from brass, bronze, and occasionally silver. Worn around the neck, they hold timeless significance as a representation of tradition, status, and wealth among Igorot groups and indigenous people of the Cordilleras.

The earliest variations of the Lingling-O have been recovered dating back to around 500 BC.
